When the Amsterdam Bank established in 1609 began accepting the Albertustaler (Burgundian taler) in lieu of the Reichstaler (although the first containing c. 3% less of silver), Brandenburg issued in 1695 and 1696 (firstly with a gross weight of 29.23 grams and 24.36 grams fine silver, later 28.66 grams with 25.28 grams fine) and the Elector of Saxony in 1702 such Talers of the 9 1/4 Taler standard. The Hamburg bank, established in 1619 used the Bancotaler of 25.98 g fine silver as its main depot currency being of nearly equal in weight to the old Reichstaler. When in Berlin in 1765 a Royal Bank was founded, the Berlin mint struck in 1766 (back dated to 1765) Bancotalers containing 22.27 grams of fine silver. Until 1790 a total of 100,000 such talers were a part of the Royal treasury before being melted down in this year.
