Kellner, Georg |
Catholic gold-smith born in Haßfurt near Bamberg. Kellner came to Amberg in the Winter of 1621/1622, and worked as a moneyer-changer, and then for the mint-master Nikolaus Fischer. In January 1622 Kellner took over the mint together with Georg Riedel and Hans Neuberger. Kellner being responsible for technical operations. His cheating of the silver suppliers for the Amberg mint caused them to look for other customers and therefore stalled the silver supply for the mint. In April 1622 Kellner signed a contract with Christof Hegner regarding the collaboration in the Amberg mint. Because of his still ongoing cheating, he was arraigned by Hegner and was sentenced to pay a fine of 10.000 Gulden. In 1623 he was released from prison and in June made another contract with the mintmaster Andreas Liebholt in Kemnath, to operate this mint together. Again having been caught cheating there, Kellner was again arraigned by his colleague, and again went into prison in Amberg, though being released after a short period. Afterwards Kellner went to Erlangen, where he got arrested once more because of his debts. In January 1624 Kellner tried to open up another mint in Amberg, which he was prevented fromby an appeal of Christof Hegner. Afterwards Kellner probably left the Upper-Palatinate for good. Lit.: E.
