Riedel, Georg (23.12.1598 - 03.11.1672) |
Mintmaster in Amberg and Erlangen in 1622. Born in 1598 in Goldkronach; Riedel (Rüdel) came to Amberg in 1611. Riedel married the daugther of the city counciller and fellow mintmaster Hans Neuberger. Together with his father-in-law and Georg Kellner Riedel bought the Amberger mint, which he left on 23.3.1622. In the time working there Riedel was probably responsible for money changing rather than actual minting operations. In May 1622 the three of them bought the mint Erlangen from a cousin of Georg Riedel. On 11.7.1622 Riedel was arrested in Amberg and stayed in prison until the end of 1622. In 1639 Riedel was city-bailiff in Bayreuth, where he died on 3.11.1672. Lit.: E. Götz, Die Münzprägungen der Oberpfalz (1992) pp. 164-165. |
