Former mintmaster for the dukes of Brunswick in Ellrich, exact period of time unknown. After negotiations with the counts of Schwarzburg in January 1621, Carpe started minting in May 1621. He had to pay a deposit of 4,000 Gulden and a weekly rent of 300 Gulden. Altough he already tried to leave the contract in December 1621, he was obliged to fullfill his contract until the end of 1622, despite the fact that the mint was not running anymore since February 1622.
