Name

Paler (Pahler), Egidius (um 1580-1623)

Egidius Paler (Pahler/Pallern/Balern/Ballern/Poler/Polern).

Mintmaster in Kirchberg from 1621 to 1623 and in Wertheim from 1622.

Records show that Paler had previously been in the service of Count Philipp Ernst von Hohenlohe-Langenburg. According to the MMLO, he was a mintmaster in Kirchberg from 1621 to 1622. Paler's family had remained in Langenburg and was arrested there by Count Philipp Ernst until Paler would settle his debts there.

Presumably from 1622 Paler was appointed mintmaster in Wertheim for the Rochefort line (the so-called younger line of the counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim), but he did not start minting there until the beginning of 1623. However, his tenure in Wertheim can only have been of very brief, as Count Philipp Ernst of Hohenlohe-Langenburg already confirmed on 13 July that he had learned of Paler's death. Paler had tried to leave Wertheim, but was caught up by servants of the Rochefort line and died during the attempted arrest.
