Koburger, Anthonius (1528-1576)

The mintmaster Anthonius Koburger became the founder of a dynasty of moneyers (five individuals in various generations). Originally from Nürnberg (Nuremberg), they were bakers first, and became rich in the professions of printers and editors. Anthonius himself went by the names of Koburger resp. Koberger.

Mintmaster in Pfreimd from 1546 to 1553, in Erlangen in 1553.

Besides his service as mintmaster for the Counts and Lords of Mansfeld in Eisleben from 1555 to 1576, Koburger also was mintmaster for Duke Heinrich the Younger of Braunschweig-Lüneburg in Goslar in 1557/58, and Ducal-Saxon mintmaster in Saalfeld from 1567 to 1571. He died in 1576 in Leipzig.
