Originally the term used for German taler coins in Italy. In addition, some Taler size coins issued by Italian states such as Venice (imitations of Maria Theresia-Talers) and Modena (imitations of Dutch Leeuwendaalders) with reference to their trade connections with the Levant are called Tallero resp.
