Byzantine silver denomination. Also called Doukaton or Argyrion. Introduced in c. 1304 under the reign of Andronicus ii in imitation of the Venetian silver ducato. Following a reduction in weight, it ceased to be issued around 1350, and was later replaced by the Stavraton. |
