A Taler size coin issued from 1575 by the Dutch provinces which shows a lion on its reverse. The Leeuwendaalder quickly became very popular in the Levant and was used especially in trade. For often low qualitiy imitations of the Leuwendaalder struck by Emden, Brandenburg, Rietberg, Insbruck, Italian states, and Denmark see Taler (Löwentaler).
