Kölner Mark

Information

The Mark of Cologne was the main currnecy weight with the establishment of the Reichsmünzordnung in 1524 and until 1857, when she was replaced by the Zollpfund of 500 grams. The Mark was subdivided into 8 Ounces = 16 Lot = 64 Quentchen = 512 Heller = 4352 Ässchen = 65,536 Richtpfennigsparts = 233.856 Gramm (as valid in Prussia from 1821). The Cologne Marck was in the 18th century divided into 256 Richtpfennigs of 65,536 Richtpfennigparts. Richtpfennig is a term used to describe a German weight unit for precious metal and balance weights. The Richtpfennigteile were used by the mints to determine the exact fineness of coins analysed. 1 Richtpfennig equals 1/65536 Mark and thus referred to the kölnische Mark.
