Metallspende des deutschen Volkes |
Collections of raw materials and meltdowns of metal objects in the First and Second World Wars were referred to as Metallspende (metal donation) des deutschen Volkes. Precious metals such as gold and silver, including coins, were collected in order to procure essential war goods on the world market without having to use by now worthless paper money. Transferred from the Metallspende to the Münzkabinett Berlin by Dr. Gelpke in 1940. Lit.: Verordnung zum Schutz der Metallsammlung des deutschen Volkes vom 29. März 1940, in: G.
