Name

Klein, Hans (-1632)

Goldsmith. Son of Hans Klein the Elder, also a Goldsmith in Rostock and Elderman of the guild of goldsmiths, who had the citizenship of Rostock since 1580, and Magdalena Behrends. After his father's death, his mother married the goldsmith and future mintmaster Marcus Hoyer. Hans Klein received the citizenship of Rostock in 1613.

The position of the mintmaster of the City of Rostock was offered to him by the City's Council on 29 November 1614, without a preceding application by him. On 8 June 1615 Klein resigned from this position. From June 1621 to 22 January 1623 Klein again was again mintmaster for the City of Rostock.

Klein's mintmaster-sign is according to Kunzel (2004) a "four leafed rose barbed", but this was probably the sign of the late mintmaster Marcus Hoyer. Kunzel (2004) also assigned to Klein the mintmaster-sign "heart under crown".

Klein died 1632 in Rostock.
