Name

Sulzberger, Hieronymus (um 1563-1622)

Hieronymus Sulzberger, also known as Jeronimus, Sültzeberger, Sülteberger, Suelßberch, Saltzberger, Salzberg.

Born around 1563 in Augsburg, died in 1622 in Rostock. Goldsmith. Became a citizen of Rostock on 9 September 1615 and married the widow of the mintmaster Hoyer in September or October 1614. In October 1615 as well as in March 1616 Sulzberger unsuccesfully asked the city council for the city's mintmaster's post. Already working in the minting-buisness, which was administered by his wife, he became the official mintmaster only in August 1617, but it is unclear, wether he ever swore his oath on a Probationstag. Because of inconsistencies in December 1618 - Sulzberger had struck prohibited Doppelschillinge and even antedated them - he was dismissed either in the last days of 1618 or at the beginning of the year 1619.

Mintmaster's symbol hunting horn.
