Rizema, Ipo

Name variants: Ritzema, Ritzima.

From 8 February 1613 to 1618 mintmaster of the city of Bremen.

On 28 February 1615 Rizema requested the Bremen city council for his dismissal, which was rejected. On 25 January 1616 he still is attested as mintmaster in Bremen, where he probably stayed until his move to Freudenburg.

From 1618 to 1620 mintmaster in Freudenburg (Bassum) for the Counts of Tecklenburg.

On 2 February 1620 Ipo Rizema signed a contract with Count Simon VII of Lippe in which he undertook to administer the Lippian mint for one year. In this contract, a weekly seigneurage of 260 Reichstalers was agreed upon, and Rizema was also to pay all the minting costs. The count in return would lend to him 15,000 Reichstalers as start-up capital for the procurement of silver, which Rizema had to pay interest on at 6% annually. In Lippe service until October 1621.

According to Kennepohl (1927) p. 30 Rizema symbol were two crossed Zaimahekn (minmaster's tools), in Lippe in some cases a singe one.
