Austrian medalist and die-engraver. Coin and medal engraver at the k.k. Hauptmünzamt (Imperial an Royal Central Mint) in Vienna under Ferdinand I. Pönninger was engraver-diurnist from 1796 and engraver-adjunct from 1801, as well as first coin engraver at the viennese mint from 1836. He worked together with Ignaz Rosner on the distribution and ejection jettons for the Hungarian coronation of 1830. He also produced dies for the coinage of Lombardy and Venetia. Lit.: A.
