Schön, Joseph (14.08.1809 - 05.03.1843)

Medalist and die-engraver.

Coin and medal engraver at the k.k. Hauptmünzamt (Imperial an Royal Central Mint) in Vienna during the reign of Ferdinand I.

Schön studied at the engraving, sculpture and landscape school of the Academy of Fine Arts from 1822 to 1830, where he won the second prize of the court prizes offered for the year 1832.

From 1831 he is attested as an unsalaried trainee engraver at the Viennese mint. In 1836 Schön is awarded a small gold medal for art and science by the King of Prussia for the production of a bronze medal on the accession of the Austrian Emperor (1835).

Schön died in Vienna in 1843.
