Eduard Mertens of Hannover. Coin collector. Collection sold by A. Hess Nachfolger, Frankfurt am Main, Auction 96 on 7 March 1904 (medal collection including coins). Mertens' collection of Civic coins was previously purchased by Zschiesche & Köder company of Leipzig. The coins were subsequently sold lacking any provenance information in their catalogue 38 (Verzeichniss einer Sammlung niedersächsischer Städtemünzen) in 1889 in Leipzig. See H. S.
