Name

Ayrer, Daniel (01.09.1577 - 20.04.1633)

Member of the mintmaster dynasty Ayrer, brother of the mintmaster Caspar Ayrer (1561-1636). Brother-in-law of the mintmaster Hennig Keusell (Küsel/Küsell/Küssel/Kiessel).

Born on 1 September 1577 in Frankfurt am Main, died there on 20 April 1633.

Since 1597 in the service of the Rhine counts as a mintwarden: Warden in Ranstadt 1605, warden in Kirn from 1605 to 1606.

Mintmaster in Meddersheim from 1606 to 1608.

Mintmaster in Wörrstadt from 1608 to 1609. His activity for the Rhine counts ended in 1609 in connection with a robbery on 13 January 1609. Ayrer was intercepted by Electoral Palatine officials on his way to Frankfurt am Main and taken to Mannheim. There his carriage was confiscated along with 80,000 groschen he was carrying with him. As this sum was not returned to him, the minting of coins in Wörrstadt had to be stopped shortly afterwards due to this immense loss. The commissioner of this act was probably the Electoral Palatine mintmaster Eichelstein, who hoped to make more money from his own mint by damaging the Wörrstadt mint.

Mintmaster in Ranstadt from 1610 to 1612, in Frankfurt from 1615 to 1616, in Büdingen from 1617 to 1618.

Mintmaster in Wertheim 1621 for the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim. The exact beginning of his activity is unclear, in the records Ayrer is found only from 1622. However, coins of the year 1621 with his mintmark (Mercury symbol) show that Ayrer minted in Wertheim already in 1621. On 2 May 1622 he concluded a contract with the two counts of the Rochefort line that he should bring tools and workers to Wertheim and receive 1,300 guldens from the counts in return. However, Ayrer only appears here as a supplier of materials and personnel. This contract does not show him as having the position of a mintmaster. We learn from an anonymous and undated memorial, which contains complaints against the work of the mintmaster Ayrer, that he must have held this position at least temporarily, though.

Mintmasterin Breuberg from 1621 to 1624, in Fürstenau in 1624, and in Mainz starting in 1627.

Ayrer signs with the symbol for Mercury.
