Person

Name

Jungfleisch, Marcel Clément Léon (24.02.1879 - 12.03.1958)

French numismatist and coin collector.

Jungfleisch specialized in coins from Egypt (from coins of the Ptolemies, Alexandrian coins, and those of the Nomes to oriental coins).

He originally came to Egypt in 1902 as an agricultural engineer. Apart from study visits and holidays in France, he never left the country. He was a member of the French and the Belgian numismatic Societies and the Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) in Cairo. A large part of his scientific legacy, including a collection of biographies of numismatists, can now be found there.

His coin collection was sold in two parts by Sotheby’s in 1972.
