Name

Küne (Köhne), Georg (um 1570-)

Georg küne, Köhne, Kühne resp. Koenen.

Born around 1570 in Goslar. Son of the Goslar mintmaster Andreas Kühne/Köhne/Koenen.

Köhne signed a contract for three years with Count Johann III of Rietberg as his mintmaster on 24 September 1615, with an annual seigniorage fee of 200 Reichstalers. The contract included an option to extend, but a new appointment for Köhne was not issued until 1 November 1620, this time a weeekly seigniorage of 200 Reichstalers was agreed upon.

Nevertheless, he seems to have continued to work as mintmaster for the Count of Rietberg during the period between 1618 and 1620. Last Rietberg mintage by Köhne in 1624 and 1625.

Minted copper coins for the city of Rietberg in 1617 and probably 1626, copper coins for the cathedral chapter of Paderborn in 1617.

Mintmaster in Goslar for the Civic mint from 1621 to 1629.

In 1630 Köhne was an administrator (Salzverwalter) overseeing the production of salt in Salzgitter, and died persumably soon afterwards. Köhne signs with his initials GK.
