	Kalina graduated from the Höhere Grafische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt in Vienna in 1975 and worked as a banknote designer for the Oesterreichische Nationalbank from 1976. In 2017, he was appointed professor. All Schilling banknotes from 1982 onwards were designed by Kalina.
