Person GND

Name

Amphikratides

Third magistrate attested in Athens in 134/133 BC [issue 31].

Maybe the same person attested again as third magistrate in 130/129 BC [issue 35]. ΑΜΦΙΚΡΑΤΙ [issue 31] and ΑΜΦΙΚ [issue 35] might be Amphikrates (following Thompson, Habicht, Leschhorn) or Amphikratides (following PA, LGPM). Probably he belongs to the same family as Amphikrates and Epistratos (the two annual magistrates in 101/100 BC). Following Thompson 1961, p. 550 he would be their uncle.

Habicht, Zu den Münzmagistraten der Silberprägung des Neuen Stils, Chiron 21, 1991, pp. 5 and 19 (134/133 and 130/129 BC); Prosopographia Attica 770; P. M. Fraser - E. Matthews, A Lexicon of Greek Personal Names II Attica (1994) p. 27 s. v. Amphikratides, no. 1; W. Leschhorn, Lexikon der Aufschriften auf griechischen Münzen II (2009) p. 315 s. v. Amphikrates (sic!).
