Name |
[Cosconia] Myrton |
Magistrate and stephanephoros in Smyrna/Ionia in AD 84. Her name (lacking the first name Cosconia) and sometimes with the title of Stephanophoros and “daughter of the people” appears on pseudo-autonomous coins issued during the reign of Domitian (RPC II nos. 1012-1017) as well as on an inscription from Smyrna. All coins combine her name with that of the Strategos Rhegeinos, and some also with that of the Roman proconsul Frontinus, providing a date for her time of office. Lit.: W. Leschhorn, Lexikon der Aufschriften auf griechischen Münzen II (2009) p. 699 s. v. Myrton (AD 84); D. O. A. Klose, Die Münzprägung von Smyrna in der römischen Kaiserzeit. AMuGS X (1987) pp. 74-75, 139-142 (IV series A-C, AD 84); Th. Corsten (ed.), Lexicon of Greek Personal Names V A. Coastal Asia Minor (2010) p. 327 s. v. Myrton (no. 7) (AD 83-120); RPC II pp. 156, 158. |
