Oppermann, Nicolaus (Claws) |
Nicolaus resp. Claus Oppermann. Originally a tailor's assistant from Horneburg near Stade, later a tailor in Goslar. In 1618 Oppermann became mintmaster for the Halberstadt chapter. In 1619 he was mintmaster in Ansbach and Hameln.From 10 October to mid-1620 Oppermann was mintmaster in Gehren as well as he was by contract in charge of Wolfgang Fröhmel, who ran the Arnstadt mint. Fröhmel schemed against Oppermann sucessfully in 1620, who was as a result dismissed. In 1620 mintmaster in Bayreuth, Hohnstein. In 1622 Oppermann became mintmaster in Goslar, and from 1626 to 1628 in Amberg. Authorities were inquiring about him because of coin forgery (Kipperei) and manslaughter. Lit.: E.
