Strauss, Geheimrat Ottmar (19.05.1878 - 25.08.1941) |
Germano-Jewish entrepreneur and art collector. Forced to flee Germany in 1936 and died in exile in Switzerland in 1941. According to the Reichsanzeiger Ausbürgerungen Liste no. 138 deprived of his German citizenship on 11 June 1940. In 1942 coins from his collection taken by the German State (resp. a selection therof) were sold to the Berlin Münzkabinett. The provenance of those coins bought by the Münzkabinett was researched in 2003/2004 when inquired by the heirs of Ottmar Strauss. It was decided that the coins still peresnt at teh End of Waorld War Two resp. the return of the cabinet's holdings from Russia in 1958 were to be given back to the family, who then in turn did sell the coins back to the Münzkabinett (agreement on restitution of 29 Nov. and 7 Dec 2004). |
