Knorr (Knorre), Ernst the Elder (1556-10.10.1622) |
Father of the mintmaster Wolff Albrecht Knorr (c. 1595-1643). Mintmaster in Weinburg from 1587 to 1591 (?), in Grünstadt from 1595 to 1596, in Fraustadt from 1597 to 1600, in Lich from 1614 to 1621, in Mülheim in 1621 and in Wertheim in 1622. According to Sauer (2012), Knorr from 1587 to 1593 was appointed mintmaster in Weinberg for the Palatine Counts of Palatinate-Veldenz, and from 1595 for the Bishop of Worms. On 24 July 1622, he was mintmaster for both lines of the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim at the mint of the Virneburg line in Wertheim. At least between 2 August and 9 October 1622, there is evidence of joint minting by both lines under Knorr. Shortly thereafter Knorr left Wertheim and disappeares from known records. Knorr signs with an upright mintmaster's-tool. Lit.: S.
