Scharff, Anton Karl Rudolf (10.06.1845 Wien - 05.07.1903 Brunn) |
Austrian medalist and die-engraver. Like his father Johann Michael, Anton Scharff studied at the Medailleurschule of the Akademie der Bildenden Künste. In 1866 he was appointed engraver at the Vienna Hauptmünzamt. Scharff produced a huge number of portrait medals. When in 1892 Austria introduced the Kronen currency it was Scharff who desigend the first coins. Anton Scharff died on 5 July 1903 in Brunn am Gebirge (Niederösterreich). Lit.: K.
