German sculptor and medalist. Josef Bernhart was in 1936 a syndic at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and in from 1937 to 1940 a senior civil servant (Regierungsrat). Bernhart made the designs for a 1 Mark coin of the Federal Republic of Germany. Medals created by him were bought by the Münzkabinett Berlin in 1936, 1937, and 1940. Lit.: H.
