Campana, Giampietro (1808-10.10.1880) |
Art collector in Rome. Created Marchese di Cavelli (in 1849?). Campana was disgraced and had his collection confiscated by the Vatican in 1857. Campana's coin collection was sold by Sotheby's in London 1846: Catalogue of the Greek & Roman Coins, Composing the Truly Valuable Cabinet Formed During the Last Thirty Years by the Cavaliere Campana, of Rome, which Will be Sold by Auction by S. Leigh Sotheby & Co. at Their House, on Thursday, 23d July 1846 and Eleven Following Days (Sundays Excepted). Lit.: Pinder (1851) p. XXXII; J.
