Friedländer, Dr. Julius (25.06.1813 - 14.04.1884)

Founding director of the Münzkabinett Berlin as a scientifically organized collection.

Friedländer first worked for the Münzkabinett Berlin from 1840 as a volonteer member of staff, lacking any salary. In 1858 he became the head of the departement of ancient coins, now properly paid. In 1868 with the elevation of the Münzkabinettt Berlin to the rank of a museum in accordance with the Royal Statute of Museums, Friedländer was made its first director.
