Journal of the Royal Library of Belgium 10, 2017, pp. 103-117 (countermarked before 1614,a nd possibly in early 1570ies).

Such countermarks with the eagle coat of arms of the d'Este family identify coins from this Princely collection, which was distributed and sold during the 17th century. At least  in the 1660ies parts of the collection are already attested in France and in the collection of Queen Christina of Sweden.

According to C. Poggi countermarking was done in the last decade of the 16th century by order of  Alfonso II d'Este (reigned 1559-1597).
