Merchant in Düsseldorf. Heynen started collecting ancient coins in 1905. The Heynen collection of coins was donated by his widow Emmi (1887-1978) to the Museum Burg Linn in Krefeld in 1974. Lit.: P. R. Franke - I. Paar, Die antiken Münzen der Sammlung Heynen. Katalog mit historischen Erläuterungen (1976). One coin of Elis showing the famous Zeus of Phidias was sold by R. Heynen to the Münzkabinett Berlin in 1936 (objekt number 18200646). Additional pieces of ancient art and coins are today kept by the Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Düsseldorf. Heynen's library of some 5,000 volumes was given in 1979 to the library of the Stadtmuseum Düsseldorf. |
