Peytrignet, Louis (-um 1868) |
The collection of the Swiss manufacturer Peytrignet of Pagani near Pompeji. Julius Friedländer had studied his collection during a visit in 1864. Peytrignet's collection was acquired (resp. a selection of the 865 finest coins) from his heirs on 12 January 1869 (Acc.-no. 1869/28839). Friedländer had estimated the collection to be worth 2,500 Talers, but had argued to pay 3,000 Talers instead, because of the current financial dispair of the family. Indeed the higher price was paid. Some of Peytrignet's non numismatic objects such as vases and statuettes are today kept in public museum collection. Lit.: J.
