Prussian officer and diplomat. Envoy to Constantinople from 1790. Lieutenant Colonel in 1818. A first catalogue of Knobelsdorff's collection was published by D. Sestini in 1804. His collection entered the Münzkabinett Berlin in January 1823 according to Pinder. Later more coins were acquired from his family in April 1833 and 1856 (Acc. 1856/17922-17990; 17998-18148. Even more coins, temporarily a part of the Hermann Dannenberg collection, were given to the Münzkabinett later. Lit.: D.
