Freude, Matthias the Elder (um 1600-1668) |
Matthias Freude the Elder. Mintmaster in Rostock from 1629 to 1635, and in Hamburg from 1635 to 1668. Freude signs with his initials MF and a Zainhaken (mintmaster's tool). Freude did also work for Rantzau between 1655 and 1658. From 1657 to 1662 he was mintmaster for Saxe-Lauenburg. His symbol there was an acorn below two Zainhaken (minmaster's tools) crossed. Lit.: B.
