Company Jezler (Schaffhausen) |
Swiss silver manufacturer, established in 1822. Managed by the family until 1996. Founded in 1822 by Johann Jacob Jezler and operating in Schaffhausen until 2018, the company manufactured all kinds of silverware. Run by the Hauser family until 1996, the company was then sold to the Silberfachgeschäft Meister in Zurich, which continued production in a reduced form until 2018. Today, Nordisk Gold & Silber Design AG in Ebikon (Canton Lucerne) produces silverware under the Jezler name. In the 1930s, Jezler began producing imitations of Swiss coins from the 16th, 18th, and 19th centuries, using newly created dies, exclusively in sterling silver to decorate silver gift items (bowls, bottle stoppers, letter openers, etc.). These imitations are of very high quality and sometimes difficult to distinguish from the originals. There are also fantasy coins with coin images that do not exist in the original, as well as those with hybrid die combinations. The production of these objects was apparently discontinued around 1980 following criticism from numismatist circles. Lit.: E.
