Name

Wintgens, Heinrich (Henning)

Born around 1542 in Hoorn (Western Frisia). Son of the mintmaster Balthasar WIntgens or Weyntgens (the Elder).

Also known as Wyntges, Wientjes, Winneekhen, Winnekhen. He signs in Dutch as Hendirk Weyntges and in a response to an bailiff of the count of Lippe he signs as Wyntges.

From 1590 to 1611 Wintgens was mintmaster in Kampen. 1611 he started mintnig in Huissen. This office was ct short in early 1613 by the confiscation of his dies.

Then Wintgens  settled over to Mülheim am Rhein and became a mintmaster there. Wintgens minted there for several principalities, including the abbots of Werden. He was though never officially appointed, and this fact combined with the inferiority of some of his coins lead to his arresting on the 21 October 1614. He was freed again in 1615, but his dies remained confiscated.

On 24 July 1615 Wintgens asked for his dismissal to become a mintmaster in Thorn. There he again experienced problems with the law, and was arrested again in 1617 while travelling to Roermond. Wintgens was brought to Bruxelles, where we lose his trace.

Wintgens' sign is a lily.
