Name

Arnold, Jobst

Arnold was accepted as a mintmaster of the Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort branch (the so called younger branch) in Wertheim on 22 December 1621. As a security payment, he had to guarantee with his estates in and around Gelnhausen. Since an inventory list of the mint is dated 5 January 1622, Arnold will probably have begun minting only at the beginning of 1622.

The end of his activity in Wertheim is unclear. A document dated 11 March 1623 shows that at that time a mintmaster had already been in the service of the Rochefort line for 1 ¼ years. This unnamed mintmaster could have been Arnold. Sauer (2012) sees two possibilities, if Arnold is indeed refered to in this document: either he took a break during the short period of joint minting of both lines and then began to work for the Rochefort branch again, or the branch in question continued to mint secretly and independently during this period.
