Person

Name

Aulos

Magistrate in Cyzicus/Mysia during the reign of Antoninus Pius.

His name is often misread as "Lydos" (the coin legend is mainly read as ΕΠΙ ΛΥΔΟΥ, with the exception of F. W. Hasluck, Cyzicus (1910) p. 306, who reads ΑΥΛΟΥ instead. This is confirmed by a coin in Munich, see RPC IV,2 [online] Temp. no. 7139) and it does remarkably appear without any title on coins issued under Antoninus Pius (group 2).

For the coins see RPC IV,2 (online) Temp. nos. 668 and 7139 (147-161 AD).

Lit.: W. Leschhorn, Lexikon der Aufschriften auf griechischen Münzen II (2009) p. 649 s. v. Lydos (AD 138-161); Th. Corsten (ed.), Lexicon of Greek Personal Names V A. Coastal Asia Minor (2010) p. 273 s. v. Lydos (no. 6) (AD 138-161).
