Prussian Lieutenant general (as of 1859). Gansauge's widow sold his collection of 3,232 ancient and 2,554 medieval coins (plus 38 forgeries and nine terracotta moulds) to the Münzkabinett Berlin for half the estimated price (5,000 instead of 10,000 Talers). See Acc.-no. 1873/65 on 24 April 1873. The money received by her was used to fund a stipend on numismatic research at the Royal University. Lit.: J.
