Meyerhof, Justus (15.09.1885 - 18.02.1943) |
Jewish Textile manufacturer in Berlin. Meyerhof owned an important collection of coins of Brandenburg-Prussia. He was forced to sell his collection during the Nazi period (his family went into exile), which was later to be auctioned off by Waldemar Wruck (without mentioning Meyerhof's name). Meyerhof died in 1943. According to Wruck's interview after the war the Meyerhof collection was taken from his offices by the Reichsbank and added to the collection of its Geldmuseum. Previously in 1929 some of his coins were sold by Felix Schlessinger in Berlin in auction 3 on 24 June 1929 (again not giving Meyerhof's name). The Münzkabinett Berlin did not buy any of Meyerhof's coins from the forced sale, but did so earlier during the Schlesinger 1929 sale. Before 1933 Meyerhof had both sold and donated some of his coins to the Münzkabinett Berlin. Lit.: E.
